An exploration of light, color, and the quiet beauty of belonging
For photographer Brigitte B Burckhardt, the journey behind the lens began with a simple gift from her grandfather: a small Kodak camera. What started as an early fascination with capturing family and friends gradually evolved into a lifelong appreciation for the world’s landscapes, cultures, and fleeting moments. After years of traveling across the globe, Burckhardt discovered a particular connection to landscape and street photography, working in both color and black and white to translate her experiences into visual narratives.
Her photograph Home, selected as Best in Show in CEV Art Gallery’s Shades of Pink exhibition, captures the extraordinary beauty of an ordinary place transformed by an unforgettable sunset. Through its pink hues, the image evokes tranquility, warmth, and a profound sense of belonging. For Burckhardt, photography is an almost meditative practice, an opportunity to express what she feels in the moment and invite others to experience that same sense of wonder.
Now exploring abstract photography and considering new processes such as cyanotype, Burckhardt continues to follow her creative instincts. With three projects currently underway and hopes of publishing them as books, her artistic journey remains open to discovery.
To begin, can you share a bit about your artistic journey and what originally shaped the way you see and interpret the world through your work?
At a young age I was inspired by my grandfather who got me a small Kodak camera. I loved to see him take photographs of family, friends etc. Later in life I travelled the globe for a long time and was fascinated by what I saw, discovered,by the peoples I met. This is when I found out about my passion for landscape and street photography, be it colour or BnW. Today I also started experimenting with abstract approaches wanting to move my body an explore new realms.
Your work “Home” was selected as Best in Show for Shades of Pink. What inspired this particular photograph, and what does the concept of “home” mean to you personally or artistically?
The photograph was taken by the waters where I live. It was a day when the sunset was awesome. Leaving pink flavour wherever you would look. Home is where I live, where I feel at home.
Pink can evoke many different emotions, from tranquility and nostalgia to warmth and wonder. What role does color play in your creative process, and what do you hope viewers experience when they encounter your work?
In ́Home’ pink represents tranquility, peace, warmth, beauty. Having this view from home extraordinary. My photography can be in colour or BnW but essentially it expresses what I feel at the moment of taking it. It is like being in a meditative state.I hope the viewer experiences joy, curiosity and let himself be taken in by my artwork
As you continue to grow as an artist, what do you hope to explore next, and what can viewers look forward to seeing from you in the future?
I will keep on taking landscape, street and abstract photographs.I might experiment with cyanotype. But most of all just follow freely my creative path
Anything else you would like to share? (Future projects, career, etc.)
I am working on three projects right now,my aim is to get them published in a book.

Brigitte B Burckhardt’s approach to photography reminds us that meaningful images often begin with the simple act of paying attention. Whether capturing the changing colors of a sunset, the characte of a street, or the possibilities of abstraction, she allows emotion and curiosity to guide her work.
Her award-winning photograph Home offers more than a beautiful view; it reflects the personal connection between place, memory, and belonging. Through her lens, familiar surroundings become opportunities for contemplation, while the wider world remains an invitation to explore.
As Burckhardt continues developing her landscape, street, and abstract photography, her willingness to experiment opens new possibilities for visual expression. With three projects moving toward potential book publication, audiences can look forward to seeing how these explorations develop.
For now, her guiding principle remains refreshingly simple: follow the creative path freely, remain open to discovery, and allow each moment to reveal what is worth capturing.
