Congratulations on being selected as an award recipient in CEV Art Gallery’s Animal Kingdom exhibition. To begin, could you introduce yourself to our audience and tell us a little about your artistic background and the type of work you create?
My artistic background is somewhat eclectic. I’ve worked in several mediums, including pastel, charcoal, watercolor, and acrylic. Much of my work centers on animals and wildlife, although I also enjoy painting other subjects that catch my imagination. I enjoy experimenting and finding new ways to express myself in each medium, presenting my subjects in ways that are fresh and unexpected. My work begins with observation, but I want to go beyond the details to bring my subjects to life. My faith is also an important part of why I create. I see the beauty, variety, humor, and extraordinary imagination in the natural world as reflections of the Creator. I strive to capture a bit of that wonder in my work.
What inspired the artwork you submitted for Animal Kingdom, and what drew you to the animal or subject portrayed in the piece?
I love tigers. Their extraordinary beauty, strength, and majesty make them an especially compelling subject for me as an artist. At the same time, they’re endangered, and that makes painting them feel even more meaningful. I hope that by highlighting tigers, my work can encourage people to look more closely at these magnificent animals and appreciate what we stand to lose if they disappear. A world without tigers would be a diminished world.
Animals can represent many things—strength, freedom, vulnerability, companionship, spirituality, or even aspects of our own identity. What does the animal or subject in your artwork represent to you personally?
It’s a joy to see an animal come to life through my art. While tigers can represent fearsome power and strength, this particular one helps me see the beauty within that strength.
Can you walk us through your creative process for this particular piece? What techniques, materials, or artistic decisions were especially important in bringing your vision to life?
Using PanPastels and pastel pencils on Pastelmat, I created a detailed, expressive study of the tiger’s face—especially his intense eyes. Then, using softer, more blurred areas throughout the rest of the piece, I strove to create a sense of movement—as though the tiger were quietly moving toward the viewer—on the prowl. That combination of detail and soft treatment allowed me to capture not just what the tiger looks like, but something of his presence and movement.
As an online art contest, your work is being viewed on screens all over the world. How does it feel to share your art in a digital space compared to a physical gallery, and how do you think that accessibility impacts the way people connect with your message?
Honestly, living in Bulgaria affords me very few opportunities to physically display my paintings. I create art not only for myself—I want others to experience it as well. Digital exhibitions give my work a much wider reach, allowing people from places I could never physically exhibit to encounter it. I hope this digital exhibition gives many others the opportunity to see and appreciate this painting.

A tiger advances with quiet purpose, its focused gaze and powerful stride conveying a sense of strength. The pastel tiger’s eyes, footfalls, and a hint of its tongue convey a message of danger. My love for animals—and my concern for endangered species like tigers—motivate me to capture their beauty and worth.
Your work was selected for an award in this exhibition. What does being recognized by the jury and CEV Art Gallery mean to you as an artist, and how does this recognition influence where you see your artistic journey going next?
Thank you to the jury and CEV Art Gallery for recognizing my artistic skills. It’s gratifying when something I’ve created connects with others. This recognition affirms my work and encourages me to continue exploring my own voice and taking creative risks.
Looking ahead, what is next for you as an artist? Are there any upcoming projects, creative goals, new directions, or ideas you are excited to explore—and where can our audience follow your work and continue supporting your artistic journey?
In recent months, I’ve been developing a number of series in my artwork, ranging from whimsical to stylized, expressive, and dynamic. I want to continue experimenting and exploring new ideas and directions in my art. A selection of my work can be viewed at https://www.foundmyself.com/lisaclark

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my work with people I might never otherwise have the chance to reach. I hope that when people encounter my art, they find something in it that makes them pause, smile, or wonder.
