“A painting creates a language unexpressed in any other form of communication; it becomes a language.” -Bogna Woskowicz

Our featured artist from the Contemporary Winter exhibition, Bogna Woskowicz, presents a compelling exploration of stillness and simplicity through landscape. Grounded in careful observation, their work transforms everyday scenes into evocative expressions of nostalgia, comfort, and home.

With a diverse creative background spanning painting, drawing, and traditional crafts, the artist approaches their practice with both technical skill and thoughtful sensitivity. They embrace uncertainty as part of the creative process, maintaining momentum by engaging with multiple projects simultaneously.

As they prepare for an upcoming solo exhibition, the artist emphasizes the importance of consistent creation in developing a distinct artistic voice. Their journey offers valuable insight into artistic dedication and the nuanced beauty found in the ordinary, resonating with collectors and emerging artists alike.

Can you tell us a bit about your journey as an artist—how you first discovered your passion for art and what has shaped your creative path over the years?

I think I have always been into art. I have been somehow naturally drawn towards it. When I was a child, I loved drawing and painting, but also sewing and preparing various objects and practicing other forms of crafts such as embroidery or lacemaking. I don't really know why, but painting is the medium that speaks to me the most. For that reason, I decided to pursue it academically. What definitely shaped my path over the years was observation— noticing certain details and elements that bring a sense of beauty and highlighting them.

Winter Depiction Award “Best in Show - Jurors Choice”

Your winning artwork in “Contemporary Winter” captivated our jurors with its emotional depth and visual strength. Can you share the inspiration behind this piece and what story you hoped to convey through it?

Thank you. The inspiration was, quite literally, drawn from my immediate surroundings, as the depicted places are the landscapes I pass by basically every day. I wanted to show the beauty of simplicity and stillness, the calmness that can be found in triviality, and the comfort and certainty merged with nostalgia felt by returning home.

Every artist faces moments of uncertainty or creative block. How do you reconnect with your creative energy when those moments arise?

Although I might appear as lucky or delusional (or both) by stating it, I believe I have never faced a creative block in my life, and uncertainty is an inevitable part of an artistic practice. I believe that working on several projects at once and switching between them helps to reconnect with creative energy— not to mention deadlines that usually provide the boost.

Looking ahead, what direction do you see your art evolving toward, and are there any upcoming projects or exhibitions you’re particularly excited about?

I think I will keep creating the landscapes that I've been creating since 2019; also, I plan to work on some sculptures. I usually avoid talking about plans— especially if they are in initial stages— but I'm having my solo exhibition in the second half of January 2026, so I'm both excited and a bit anxious.

What advice would you give to emerging artists looking to find their unique voice in the world of fine art?

Even now, I still feel as an emerging artist myself, thus I feel a bit arrogant answering it - what I believe is most important is to keep creating. If art feels like "this is it," if there are some aspects you'd like to delve into, some stories you'd like to tell (in every possible sense), then you must keep creating. I believe that keeping creating and never abandoning it are the most crucial ways of finding your unique voice and your way.
